KWELA TOWN OF THE YEAR 2018: JEFFREYS BAY
Tuesday, 19th June 2018
We're celebrating in the Eastern Cape as one of the friendliest towns in the country has been chosen as Kwela Town of the Year/Dorp van die Jaar - Jeffrey's Bay!
Relaxed coastal town, Jeffrey's Bay or "J-Bay", first came to international recognition in the 1966 Bruce Brown surf film, Endless Summer, and has become a mecca for surfers from around the globe in the decades in-between. Marketed as the "best right-hand break in the world", this Eastern Cape town offers the same thing to surfers and non-surfers alike: warm waters, endless beaches, marine life and an unparalleled Eastern Cape vibe! The bustling town is bordered on both sides by nature reserves and rivers – the Kabeljous and Seekoei estuaries and within Jeffreys Bay –the Noorsekloof nature reserve.
Kyknet's Kwela Dorp van die Jaar/Town of the Year is a prestigious tourism award given to one small South African town each year. Finalists are selected from each province in South Africa, followed by a nationwide vote that saw Jeffrey's Bay come out on top for 2018!
This accolade brings essential tourism awareness to small-town South Africa and comes in the final days before the annual Jeffrey's Bay Winterfest:
“J-Bay” offers everything from whale watching, nearby nature reserves and calamari that takes your tastebuds on the ride of their lives. If you’re at a loose end next month, here’s what’s happening in the newly-crowned Town of the Year:
